Written by: Kate Zusmann

best burger places in rome

Rome is perfect place both for eager travellers and foodies all around the world. Though quite famous symbol of an American pop culture, burger restaurants rightly took over the Eternal City. However, little did you know that the origins of such simple yet incredibly delicious dish date back centuries ago.

Well, hear this out. In 10th century when Genghis Khan, crowned the “emperor of all emperors”, and his “Golden Horde” conquered two thirds of the world, they certainly did not have time to make long layovers and eat proper meals. Thus, they used to take scrapings of lamb or mutton and form them into flat patties. The latter were put under the saddle of each horsemen and consequently were softened both by the saddle and horse’s back. They could then eat the patty while riding into the battle. Thus, this was the earliest record of modern burger’s origins.

However, the modern name and appearance of the burger is usually attributed to 1800s

This was the time of a major European migration influx to America. Thus, migrants were served quickly grilled patties put between two pieces of bread throughout their journey. Almost all ships have departed from the Hamburg Line port; hence, that is where the name comes from.

Nowadays, this super popular dish is present in menus of restaurants all over the world and Rome is no exception. So, following is the list of 10 best burger restaurants you can find in the Eternal city.
